Houston Chronicle Article on Fair Compensation for Texas Landowners

The article discusses how South Texas landowners are determined to get fair compensation for their land needed for Border Wall Project. Property owners do have an entitlement to receive just compensation under the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.  For property owners affected by the Border Wall, it is important to get expert guidance on how just compensation is calculated.  In addition to what the property to be acquired itself may be worth, the property owner may also be entitled to damages to the remainder of their property.  Some instances that may trigger such remainder damage compensation:  if the wall makes the remainder of the property less valuable, if the property loses value because it is “bisected” by the wall, if the property loses value because it loses some of its recreational use.  There could be many others that are unique or specific to the property being acquired.
